Nakheel Landscapes remain giants of Qatar 2022 Workers Cup
Nakheel Landscapes have continued to show class and dominance in the Qatar 2022 Workers Cup as they lifted a third trophy in on January 25th.
It was the third consecutive Workers’ Cup title that Nakheel Landscapes lifted after humbling Taleb Group 4-0 in the final played at the Al Sadd Stadium.
The game was watched by almost 10,000 fans. It was the seventh edition of the tournament, which is organised by the Qatar Stars League (QSL) and sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).
Al Ahli star and former Netherland International Nigel de Jong presented the trophy to the winners.
The final was also graced by H.E. Ajay Sharma, the British Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Hans-Udo Muzel, the German Ambassador to Qatar, and the Canadian Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Stefanie McCollum. They were joined by the Ghanaian Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Emmanuel Enos, the French Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Franck Gellet, and the Nepalese Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Prof. Ramesh Prasad Koirala.
Speaking after the match, Fatma Al Nuaimi, the SC’s Communications Director, said: “This year’s final was yet again an exciting footballing showpiece. Congratulations to Nakheel for a great victory.
“I’d like to commend all 28 teams that have taken part and thank the thousands of supporters who came to the final – it just goes to show how the Workers’ Cup is growing in stature every year. Football has the power to promote many things, and this tournament is just one example of how we want to use the 2022 World Cup to encourage social inclusion and sports participation across Qatar.”
The SC and QSL work together to deliver the Workers’ Cup as part of their ongoing commitment to use football as a tool to accelerate social and human development.
Hassan Rabiah Al Kuwari, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales and Communications at the QSL, said the Workers’ Cup continues to go from strength to strength.
“The increasing popularity of Workers’ Cup, ever since its start in 2013, proves it has become a major event that engages an important section of society. It’s a matter of pride for the QSL to organise a tournament which uses the power of football to support positive social changes in Qatar,” said Al Kuwari.
More than 600 players from 28 teams competed in this year’s tournament. Eleven of these teams were current or former contractors on Qatar 2022 projects, while seven are engaged with the SC’s flagship corporate social responsibility programme, Generation Amazing.
