The Taifa Stars of Tanzania will camp in Egypt ahead of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Egypt will host Africa’s biggest football showpiece June 21st to July 19th in the cites of Alexandria, Cairo, Ismailia and Suez.
Ammy Ninje, the technical director of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) told mirrorsportafrica that they have decided the team camps in Egypt so that they can acclimatize.
“The team should be able to be in Egypt 10 days before the tournament. It will not be important for us to camp far away,” reasoned Ninje.
Tanzania finished second behind Uganda in Group L of the qualifiers to make it back to Afcon after their last appearance in 1980.
The Taifa Stars ate pooled alongside Algeria, Senegal and fellow Cecafa representatives Kenya in Group C. Head coach Emmanuel Amuneke has made it clear that no team that has qualified for Afcon is weak.
“We need to work hard ahead of the tournament because that is the only way we shall get the good results. But I think some big teams will be sent home early,” added the coach, a former Nigerian international ad former African Footballer of the Year.
